Derek Oland is the Executive Chairman of Moosehead Breweries Limited. He joined his family’s business in 1961 and has held a number of positions with the Company including President and CEO. In 1997, when he was appointed Chairman of Moosehead, he became the fifth generation member to lead the family company.

Mr. Oland has been active in business and community affairs throughout this career. He is a founding member and a past Chairman of The New Brunswick Business Council, Founding Chairman of the Wallace McCain Institute for Business Leadership, and was Chairman of Emera, the parent company of Nova Scotia Power and other subsidiaries, a post he held for 17 years.

In November 2006 Mr. Oland received the New Brunswick Red Cross Humanitarian Award. In June of 2007, he was named an Officer of the Order of Canada, and in October 2008, he was elected to the Junior Achievement New Brunswick Business Hall of Fame.

He was educated at Rothesay Collegiate School and the University of New Brunswick (BBA 1962) and is a graduate of Harvard Business School’s Owner/President Management Program. In 1998, Mr. Oland received an Honorary Doctorate of Science from the University of New Brunswick.

Mr. Oland and his wife, Jacqueline, have four sons, three of whom serve in senior management positions with Moosehead Breweries. He received the Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur Of The Year 2011 Atlantic Lifetime Achievement Award
