Janice MacPherson is a serial entrepreneur as well as the Program Manager with the Wallace McCain Institute for Business Leadership at UNB (WMI).
In 1995, Janice co-founded Net Idea Telecommunications Inc. in Nelson, BC which turned out to be one of the longest running independent ISP`s (Internet Service Provider) in Canada. For more than 14 years Janice was responsible for the overall operations of Net Idea including market development, human resource management and financial cost controls. The company still operates today as one of only a handful of independent ISP’s in BC.
In 2008 Janice entered the food service industry, co-founding Pomodori; a quick-service wood fired pizzeria in Rothesay, New Brunswick serving Neapolitan style pizza, salads and gelato. A year after opening, Pomodori was ranked 8th best in the world when they competed at the World Pizza championships in Italy. With a focus on natural ingredients, Pomodori is doing its part to create change in the quick service restaurant space by delivering delicious, healthy dishes in a fast food environment – slow food, served fast – with a second location having opened in summer of 2018.
Chosen as one of the top 15 Entrepreneurial Leaders in New Brunswick in the first WMI-ELP cohort in 2008, Janice continues to be a part of a strong network of fellow entrepreneurs and also helps new entrepreneurs with their business challenges through her role at the Wallace McCain Institute.
Janice has spent the last 10+ years designing and running various programs in the role of event planner and facilitator. She has worked with companies in small, one-time group settings as well as longer term facilitation of peer groups.
As avid skiers with children in the ski racing program at Poley Mountain Race Club, Janice and her husband, Keith Dunphy launched the first ever Masters Ski racing program in New Brunswick, called U99. Started in 2013-14 with 8 members, the program has grown to over 20 members who train to ski gates in a fun environment with no pressure but optional ability to race in the Atlantic Canadian and Canadian Masters race circuits.
